Each month we have a range of people coming to our centres, all with a different goal in mind. Throughout May, our tutors have helped many learners overcome barriers to achieve their goals. Sadly, we can’t showcase all of them, but here our Learners of the Month for May…

Artus Vladinovskis – Hull (Pictured above)

Artus came to our Hull centre in September as he wanted to improve his English skills. With German being his first language, Artus really struggled to grasp correct English grammar and spelling.

Artus began with his English Entry Level 3 qualification and found it very difficult at first. He left the course a number of times but through the support of the staff he came back an kept pushing on. Artus finally achieved his qualification after seven months of hard work and dedication and has now enrolled onto the Level 2 maths qualification which he is enjoying.

“I knew I had to keep going, I did enjoy the learning but I found it very difficult, but I had to keep going to get the qualification. It took me a long time but I am happy I did it,” Artus told us.

Artus is now working his way through his maths qualification and is looking forward to utilising his new skills so he can find work.

Claire Russell – Pudsey

Claire wanted to improve her IT skills in order to increase her job prospects. In particular, Claire was looking to gain experience with the use of Microsoft Office systems. During her time at our Pudsey centre, Claire completed three IT qualifications in just four weeks!

Claire began with the Entry Level 3 IT course and worked her way up to the Level 2 qualification. With a goal to find a role in admin, her new IT skills are sure to improve her job prospects.

“I really enjoyed my time at the centre and the style of learning. It was great to learn new skills and at times it was challenging. I feel so much more confident now and proud of myself to have achieved the IT qualifications. I now feel I can apply for jobs that I couldn’t have before,” Claire said.

With three new qualifications under her belt, Claire now stands a far better chance of finding the job in admin that she wants.

Sandra Taylor – Stockport

Sandra came to our centre as she wanted to improve her overall employability by gaining new skills and qualifications. She lacked confidence in her abilities but during her time at our centre, Sandra came into her own.

Sandra wanted to improve her IT skills so she enrolled on the Level 2 course. Through the support of the tutors and her own dedication, Sandra achieved a Level 2 IT qualification which led to her finding full-time employment!

“In2wrk have massively helped me gain the career I wanted. I felt supported from day one, when I first came to the centre I was nervous but Andy boosted my confidence. My IT has been useful in my current job role as I have to use an Ipad which I can now use with ease and confidence,” Sandra told us.

Sandra now works as a Sales Assistant at Dunelm Mill.

Madara Raupa – Wolverhampton

Madara first came to our centre back in April after she was made redundant from her job in March. Her goal was to improve her maths and English skills in order to support her application for higher education.

To gain access to the Accounting degree, Madara needed to achieve Level 2 qualifications in both English and maths. In less than two months Madara achieved the qualifications she needed, meaning she was in a position to apply for the course she wanted.

“I’m not a very confident person but attending the courses here made me open to new experiences. Gaining Level 2 maths and English will help me with my goal of becoming an accountant,” Madara said.

Whilst waiting for her Accountancy course to begin, Madara is currently volunteering at our centre.

Ivan Duberry – Leeds

Ivan came to our centre as he was looking to gain his CSCS Card and improve his IT skills in order to boost his job prospects. After his initial assessment, Ivan enrolled onto the Entry Level 3 course, before moving up to Level 1 soon after.

With two new qualifications under his belt, Ivan qualified for a free CSCS Card so he could start applying for work in construction.

“The IT qualifications will help boost my CV,” Ivan said.

Ivan is now hoping to find a career in the construction industry and hopes his new skills will help him find the job he wants.

Lotono Bonku – Doncaster

Lotono initially came to us to boost her English skills. After achieving a Certificate in Adult Literacy many years ago, Lotono had no recent qualifications to help her job search.

As a single parent, Lotono could only attend the centre around school commitments. Yet in less than two months, she had achieved a Level 1 qualification in English. Lotono wanted to find a role in care but before coming to our centre she lacked the skills and confidence she needed.

“I think more people need to aware of where they can go to do their English courses as I found the tutors very helpful. If it wasn’t for the patience of the tutors I would never have had the confidence to apply for the care job, and get it!” Lotono told us.

After achieving her Level 1 in English, Lotono managed to secure full-time employment as a Care Assistant with Hesley Group Doncaster.
