A Wolverhampton learner has acquired the qualifications needed to apply for a University course after completing free English and maths courses at In2wrk.

Madara Raupa first came to our centre back in April after being made redundant. To be able to begin the Accountancy degree course she wants to do, first, she needed to improve her maths and English qualifications. After finding out about the free courses we offer through our website, Madara decided our Wolverhampton centre would be the perfect place for her to kick-start her new career.

With the goal of working in Accounting, Madara knew she had to achieve Level 2 qualifications in maths and English. When she first came to our centre her confidence was low but her can-do attitude allowed her to make the most out of the learning experience.

“I’m not a very confident person but attending the courses has made me open to new experiences. Getting to know new people and develop new skills has made me feel more confident,” Madara told us.

In just two months Madara had achieved both of her Level 2 qualifications, taking her one step closer to reaching her goal. After achieving her qualifications, Madara began volunteering in our centre to improve her new literacy and numeracy skills further.

Rashpal Dhillon, one of Madara’s tutors, was impressed by Madara’s work ethic.

“Madara worked hard and was is keen to learn new skills. There were some challenges with English due to it not being her first language but Madara overcame this through sheer hard work and determination,” Rashpal said.

Madara began volunteering at our centre in June but soon found part-time employment as an Administrator.

“If it was not for the support of Rashpal and Judy I would still be looking for work,” Madara said.

“Rashpal helped update my CV and helped me look for jobs that matched my skills. Both Judy and Rasphal helped me prepare for my interview and even ran a mock interview for me.”

With two new qualifications under her belt and a part-time job, Madara is now preparing to apply for her Accounting degree.
