Free Entry IT training course for people who require help with Universal Credit applications

One of the biggest issues facing unemployed people in the UK is not having the required digital and online skills to be able to apply for their benefits through Universal Credit, and source and apply for employment opportunities using the new ’Find a Job’ system. To help both local people struggling to get online, and the Jobcentres trying to switch their service users onto the online system, In2wrk have devised an IT workshop to address the issue.

The training workshop includes two qualifications: one that introduces people to a computer, some of its simple software and the internet, and the other to provide learners with the skills needed to use IT to search for a job, either through job sites or through the Find a Job account.

Below are the qualifications included in the training course starting this month:

OCR Entry Level Certificate in Life and Living Skills (Entry 2)

This is the qualification for people with little or no prior experience using IT. They will learn how to use a mouse and keyboard, find information using the internet, communicate electronically via emails, create and edit simple text documents and use IT safely.

Skillsfirst E3 Award in Digital Skills for Pre-Employability

This course is the logical next step, as it will build on the skills and knowledge gained in the previous IT qualification, as well as learn how to use social media to find employment opportunities. This qualification also covers key information around Universal Credit and how to apply for it online. The course also covers the benefits of Find a Job, how to set up an account and searching for jobs using it.
